About
THE FUCK IS THIS ANTI-STORE THING?
Good question, homie. Everything here is up for grabs and nothing is for sale; yes, it is free. You download the files for the shit you like, and then you are on your own. Each item will have either specifications pertaining to patterns and what print vendor to use, or will say you can print anywhere; but ultimately it is up to you to get your goods printed and made. Having your items printed yourself can seem intimidating or complicated, but I promise it is not. Almost everything I own for decos or clothing is all print-on-demand and things available on this website.
WHY IS IT FREE?
Hexed.Haus is a love project; I create clothes I want to wear for myself, and art for my home, and I figure if others want this stuff too, well, it’s available. And this is a way for me to honour my values; I’m really sick of hustle culture, capitalism, the rat race, commerce & marketing - all things that are impossible to avoid these days. Why am I critical of all these things? They are merely social constructs and activities which limit us, limit creativity; I think they poison society, tbh, and they dull the fuck out of masses.
This “business model” is made in pursuit of anarchist ideals, anti-capitalist ethics and anti-hustle culture principles. And also in the hope of being more eco-friendly and also more “soul-friendly”, reducing the commercial footprint online, and separating creativity from commerce. This project might be strange and unusual but it feels ethical and right to me.
So yes, all these designs are made on my own time, and yes the costs for the website are all from my own pockets but I make this decision because it’s more important for me to not participate in the selling of stuff. I feel inundated by the culture of commerce & marketing just always after everyone’s money; the non-stop advertising and that goddamn shop button. You will find no shopping cart here.
Do I judge others for selling their things? Individuals who have small shops & artists - no, of course not. We have to make a living don’t we, this is the world that we’re stuck with - but I’m good, I already make a living. And I’ve tried the shop thing - I never felt good about it, it stresses me out, it feels confining to me; this is entirely a personal choice.
I also have a nostalgia of the time when the interwebs began; there was no e-commerce back then. The internet was a hub where crafters united and everyone shared all kinds of crafts, art and patterns for free - I miss those days. Communities online now are pretty much indissociable from influencer culture, or in order to download something you have to agree to subscribe to a newsletter or make an account; I really miss the simple communities where everyone is on equal footing, and you can just grab something that you like without asking permission or giving your email in exchange - that’s the type of space that I wanted to have. No customer service, no moderating; just grab and go or come get inspired to make your own stuff.
So everything is up for grabs; feel free to print these items for yourself or your homies, BUT please don’t sell these designs or use them to promote or advertise stuff - it completely defeats the purpose. Those are the only rules. Or I will hex you.
So, what is hexed.haus?
Hexed.Haus is an art journey exploring the occult, anarchy, non-theistic satanism, horror, nature, space, life and death, and the 90s nostalgia; with eclectic pieces interlacing satanic, goth, grunge, punk, bohemian, and modern diy aesthetics; transposed on things to be worn, live in, and live with.
The ideals behind Hexed.Haus are those of agency, freethought, critical sense, rebellion, empowerment and ownership of being an adversary & marginal, progressiveness, equality, idealism, the pursuit of knowledge, romanticism, gender-bending & cultural engineering, and transhumanism.
With its various styles, Hexed.Haus is a reimagining of the traditional dark aesthetics; going beyond the classical black and darker hues, blackletter fonts, and traditional death imagery and symbolism. Bringing alt fashion to a new, modern & colorful era.
Probably best defined by “eclectic goth”; Hexed.Haus embraces the hybrids of genres, such as whimsigoth, cottagegore & fairygrunge.
Art is a living and breathing journey, perpetually in motion and evolving.
Even in a fucking dreadful world, we can go beyond.
